Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Men's 36" Inseam:
Very nice product. Works well, but the rise (distance between crotch and waist) is quite long. I had to roll the waistband (not uncommon for me). Other than that, great!

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Men's 36" Inseam:
The waist fit nicely but the seat and the thighs were too tight. Also, they pants are very baggy in the lower leg. They were plenty long enough so my only complaint is they need a more relaxed seat and thighs with a slithly more fitted lower leg.

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Men's 36" Inseam:
These are my go to pants for backpacking in CO. I mostly backpack the south central mountains and sometimes that canyon country. I usually travel cross country following drainages with occasional trail time for high speed access.
After a year they have held up well to this type of use from desert to knee deep snow. They have done surprisingly well going through brush and even crawling above tree line to make that final approach on the scout.
I second that the waist band snap backer sucks when it comes to comfort. I finally cut the snap off with some diaganol cutters and sewed on a button. I don't have a gut, but that snap backer has hard edges that irritates the skin. I run commando, so maybe it is not an issue for the undie crowd.

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Men's 36" Inseam:
I was close to spending $200 on a custom pair of pants when I stumbled onto these. I ordered 2 pairs which I took with me on a 2 week cycling trip in Asia. They're light, versatile, kept my legs protected from the sun and mosquitoes and they can easily convert to shorts when needed. They survived a few falls and got jammed in the gears a couple of times. I haven't taken them hiking yet, but I have no complaints so far. Thank you, REI, for taking care of us tall skinny folks!

These are great! They fit good and are comfortable. But, the lower legs can be a bit of a pain to rezip unless your sitting down and have a bit of time.

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Men's 36" Inseam:
These are my first convertible pants, and I think I am going to love them. But be careful with the sizing. I have been wearing pants with 34" waist for decades, and the Medium size is supposed to be 32" - 34", but these substantially smaller than any 34" waist size pants I have ever worn. I am returning the size Medium pants and have reordered them in size Large.

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Men's 36" Inseam:
The zipper stuck on my old pair of Sahara pants and I actually had to rip the pocket open to get my car keys out. Returned those and picked these up as they happened to have a 36" inseam in the store that day.
I love the improvements starting with the no sit zips. Very long and comfortable. Much more breathable too. Previous models were like plastic wrap.
Wore them around town and hiking with great happiness. Then on first 3 day backpacking trip I basically put them through a test no REI designer could have dreamed up. 3 hours of bushwhacking through scrub that grew up after a fire. I emerged on the other side physically decimated, covered head to toe in black ash, green and who know what else. Pants stood the test tho. One little abrasion hole on the front pocket. Surprisingly, almost all the stains came out too.
I'm a believer. REI makes great gear!

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Men's 36" Inseam:
I bought these pants just before my trip to the Rocky Mountains in CO. I felt the 36" was a bit long and would be better off with the 34" inseam. I think the hand pockets could have been better designed, with a moveable liner, so things like pocket knives don't slide out when sitting down. The new zip-off pant feature is great - no need to sit down or get your pants dirty from sliding over your dirty hiking shoes.
My biggest compliments on these pants for my first use, was their ability to repel water. We were caught in a heavy rain/hail storm on Mount Evans. The Sahara's didn't absorb water at all and did not make me feel overheated. They also breathed well and kept me warm, when the summit of the mountain dropped to 45 degrees the first week in August.

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Men's 36" Inseam:
I have an earlier version of these pants, and was glad to see they fixed some of the drawbacks. I'm unsure if they fixed the main problem with my pair, which is the ability of the cargo pockets to snag on any little thing that sticks out around them. I've had many other pairs of cargo shorts, and none of them have had this problem. I'd recommend these to a friend, but only after I warned them about the pockets.
But aside from the cargo pockets snagging, they're great pants to wear when I'm bike commuting on the days when the temperature changes during the day calls for different layers on the way in and home. The extra secret pocket is handy for money or credit cards, and my old cell phone fit perfectly in the cell phone pocket in the left cargo pocket.
