Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good one for the price I got it when was I was 6 months pregnant as i wanted to monitor my heart rate while running and spinning.Used it every day and was very happy. Now my baby is 10 weeks old and i have lost most of the weight i gained so the strap had to be adjusted to the smallest. Since it was stretch during my pregnancy it would not stay tight around my chest( cheap quality of the strap). Now it does not pick up my HR.I called the customer service and they are sending me another smaller size strap for free.(great customer service rep).If you are looking for a basic reliable HR monitor. This is a good one.But if you are small or extra small like me you will need to order a different strap.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from almost break cap to change battery for t I got it for my cardio and spin classes. It took me a while to figure out most of features since this my first Polar watch I was very discouraged from Polar branch due to the battery have be change by them until I heard about FT4. Yes I can the battery myself but after second time I am not sure there will be 3rd time I almost destroy cover since I had a very...difficult time turning cover to open position. I had other heart rate monitors and the transmitters can use different brand except Polar. From this experience I will not get another Polar watch.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's orange! Too bad it's unreliable. After a frustrating experience involving a micro-screwdriver and lots of cursing, I bought this to replace a (less expensive) Polar HRM because I wanted one where I could easily change the battery myself. Yeah, I can do that with this one, but it's just as frustrating...for different reasons. I've used this HRM for a variety of workouts -- boot camp, spinning, running, power yoga -- and have found it extremely unreliable in picking up the signal from the chest strap. When I'm on the bike, the only way I can get it to read somewhat consistently is to wrap the watch around my bra strap. I don't know if it's an interference issue or what. I just finished an hour-long boot camp workout, and the thing lost the signal no less than 11 times. It's distracting (makes a sad video game-type "game over" noise each time) and makes me doubt the reliability of the reading, not to mention the annoyance of having to stop what you're doing and wiggle around until it picks up the signal again. The chest strap has a removable transmitter that's much bulkier than some of the slimmer plastic bands I've used, and it's somewhat uncomfortable to have a big plastic lump right under your bust. I like the reading options and it's easy to scroll through the screens; I also really like that you can pause and restart the monitoring. And it's orange, at least the one I got. Unfortunately, the good features don't make up for the transmission failures.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great tool when it works properly I purchased this product as a tool to encourage me at the gym. It is surprising to compare calories burned on the treadmill, etc. vs. the Polar FT4! It makes me want to work harder to make my workouts more efficient (burn more calories in the least amount of time). I have found sometimes even though I have carefully followed the instructions regarding the heart monitor strap I get no readout on the watch. Frustrating! Other than that, it is a great way to measure how effective your workouts are.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great at First I am on my 2nd FT4, thanks to REI replacing the first one. Not even six months after using the first one, it started having trouble reading my heart rate. It showed 00 on the display a lot, and when I did finally get it to take a reading, it would show a heart rate in the low 200's with me standing still, pre-exercise. I contacted REI and they happily exchanged that one for a new one. Now, 8 months later, this one is doing the exact same thing. I have followed the instructions on how to care for the device. I had the batteries replaced in the watch and chest piece about a month or two ago because I was getting the low battery sign on the watch. And now, it's doing the same thing as the other one: no heart rate found at all, or it's displaying one in the low 200's again. I am really disappointed. When this watch worked, I felt it was accurate and reliable, but these two I've had haven't lasted more than a year. I will look at buying another brand next time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from low quality monitor Update from my previous review, I have it for more than a year now. I had to ship it back to Polar to replace the strap part and I did not use it every week. I can not believe I have replace so quickly plus it was not under warranty. I have some other brands of heart rate monitors and they do have these kind of issues. I am very disappointed with Polar product and I will not buy another Polar product again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Would love it if... ...the battery lasted longer. I have used this several times, but apparently the battery runs out faster than I wanted it to. This wouldn't be a problem if I knew it, because then I could just keep extra batteries hanging around. The time is accurate, easy to read, easy to navigate functions. I liked that there is an alarm on it for your target zones, though I am not sure how accurate those readings are. My readings seem to be very low when I use this....maybe it is me or my settings?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great HRM I've used my Polar FT4 to measure my heart rate and calories burned while I work out. I have no idea how accurate it is, but I can say that workouts that feel harder reflect a higher average heart rate and calories burned than workouts that feel easier. This is true even on my regular running routes. I love being able to monitor my heart rate while I'm working out, and I love seeing how many calories I've burned when I'm done, it's helped me maintain my weight after losing 27 pounds. My only problem was the first one I bought would lose my heart rate during workouts. It happened once in a while within a couple months, but became a more frequent problem later. I brought the first one back to REI and got a replacement, I've had the new one for about a month and a half, and it's never lost my heart rate. I'm really happy with my purchase!
