Comments about Outdoor Research Mithril Jacket - Women's:
I ordered this jacket for the combination of style and function. I was not disappointed. The jacket fit well. (I would have liked another inch or two in sleeve length, but I am 6 ft tall, so I am used to it.) I wore this jacket for a snowshoeing trip. It was 12 degrees out with winds gusting up to 25 miles per hour. I wore the jacket with a base layer and a fleece jacket and I never felt the wind or the cold. The jacket moved well even with a pack on. My range of motion was not restricted. A keeper.

Comments about Outdoor Research Mithril Jacket - Women's:
I bought this jacket for an early fall hiking and camping trip in Glacier Nat'l Park, I wanted something waterproof yet a little warmer than a lightweight Gortex rain jacket that I already have. So far, I really like it. Haven't tested it yet in an absolute downpour but it did totally fine in moderate drizzle. Wore it hiking in temps ranging from high 30's when we started in the morning to probably 60's (once it got warmer than that I took it off obviously). It was warm enough in the morning and it had good wind resistance yet it wan't oppressive later as things (both the environmental temp, and my own body) warmed up.
I'm around 5'4", 135-140# and I got a medium. Could have gotten away with a small except that I'm cold blooded and wanted plenty of room for layering. No problem layering over fleece tops, I'm also able to layer it over a down-alternative puffy jacket when it gets really cold at night. The sleeves are a bit long for my short arms but I could push the sleeves up to my wrists, tighten the velcro and the sleeves stayed out of my way just fine.
One surprise was that the inside pocket is down low, right inside the left side hand pocket rather than up in the chest area. It worked fine, just wasn't quite where I'd expected it. Hand pockets are in a comfortable location, the zippers functioned well and the pockets were an acceptable size. The hood worked fairly well, there's an adjustment cord at the back and with that tightened up the hood stayed in place, didn't block my vision. Was a little irritated with the collar, it sometimes rubbed on my chin a little but that was only a minor issue.
I think this jacket will be great for Seattle's rainy winter days.
Very happy with this jacket so far!

Comments about Outdoor Research Mithril Jacket - Women's:
NOT INSULATED. I was shopping for an insulated jacket and that's how it was categorized on the REI website. So I was bummed when it arrived with just a thin fleece lining.
The fit is perfect!!! Women's jackets are usually too short in the sleeves, tight across the shoulders and biceps and huge in the hips. At 5'8" 140lbs a large was just perfect and so cute!
I threw it on over a cotton sweatshirt and tshirt and stood on the porch in cloudy, windy 38 degree weather (sorry, don't know the windchill) and my arms and back were cold in a few minutes.
I bet it's a great jacket if you're moving fast and/or use a hefty base layer. Just not what I was looking for. Can't justify it when I already have a nice gore-tex shell.

This is a really great jacket, and you cannot beat the sale price! I am 5'4", 155 lbs, athletic build. I typically wear M in jackets, but the M was snug. It would've been fine if I didn't plan to wear a down sweater or even more than one layer under it in really cold weather. I was so relived to see that REI still has L in stock. Exchanged the M for L.

Comments about Outdoor Research Mithril Jacket - Women's:
I bought this last winter for the purpose of a durable, waterproof, warm, winter work coat (as an alternative to a carhartt jacket).
YES. The mithril is fantastic, has stood up to wood hauling, nail/screw scrathes, fishing in the AK rain, all the other b.a. stuff I get myself into, AND received aesthetic compliments. True to Tolkien's creation. I love the high collar, the pull cords on the inside near the face are uncomfortable but that's the only thing I have to say in criticism. The hood is nice but I typically wear a balaclava and hat in addition. It is h20-proof, I recommend using a NIKWAX TX. DIRECT wash-in, there is fleece on the inside and I don't believe wash-in is recommend but it's worked for me. NIKWAX makes a softsheel proof, that might work better but that's what I had.
The mithril is warm but I LAYER for good wind-proof. I usually wear a medium/large, I bought a large because it was the only one on super sale last year, a medium would have worked too. I have long arms and even these sleeves are long on me, which I love for bike-riding and work and pulling over gloved hands. The ergonomic fit is wonderful, a lot of movement in the shoulders and arms, I've even taken this out for a very wet and cold run.
Take note, I bought the black and the colors were actually reversed, the seams are darker, the coat fabric a very dark slate. Surprised when I got it, and I might like it better the way it's shown online, but, whatever, it's an awesome piece of outdoor gear. Way to go OR.

I absolutely love this jacket. It rains A LOT where I live, and this keeps me dry and warm in fall and winter. Just the right fit so that it does not look bulky even with sweater inside. Great shape of hood with high front zipper to keep the head and face dry in rain.
I got so many compliments of jacket, too!

I almost never write any reviews. But I just cannot help commenting on Mithril Jacket. It looks great, it fits wonderful, but what is most important, it really does protect me. I just wore it for three days in the Italian Alps, at a 3000-meter altitude, sub-zero temperatures, snow, and an incredibly strong wind. Throughout the trip I felt warm, often wearing just two shirts underneath. Although it was drizzly weather, I was perfectly protected against the wetness. I really, really recommend it if you like a reliable piece of clothing to protect you in very harsh weather.

What a fantastic jacket. The new Outdoor Research ventia fabric is absolutely amazing. The price is great too, [$] for a waterproof, windproof soft shell. This jacket is perfect for winter hiking, mountaineering, and skiing. Plus what a great name- mithril-it was good enough for Frodo and Bilbo- and more than good enough for me.

Comments about Outdoor Research Mithril Jacket - Women's:
I got this jacket last year (blue jay color) and wore it ice climbing over 65 days during the course of the season. It still looks brand new but that isn't why I love it. It keeps me warm, it sheds the water that drips on me while I am climbing, the cut and fabric don't restrict my movement and the material fights back when my sharp pointy objects snag it. The hood accommodates my helmet without restricting my vision. I am ready to wear it again this season...I am just waiting for the ice!!!!
I pair the Mithril Jacket with the espresso OR Solitude Pants...perfect combination for my back country adventures.
