They are versatile, low-profile, and appear clean and classy. They have been my only pants on a 13 day trip to Nicaragua/Costa Rica, a 10 day visit to Seattle, and several 2-4 day backpack excursions. I am the kind of guy that uses his pants to clean his hands, and with these pants you would never know it. They dry quickly, move with you, do not smell, and look great!

BIRTHDAY NUMBER 72, gift number 26 from my member bride of twenty-six years. My wife forwarded on to me the questionnaire requesting feedback on her purchase.
Since she had made the purchase based on my having selected the product at the Bend store while on holiday in mid-February in that area, I was tickled to have this opportunity.
That notice was mailed to me yesterday or day before from my bride. I am sending this today.
Original at-risk purchase based on specific track & field officiating use. Base requirement besides comfort and neutral color for uniform color coordination was ability to secure expensive, compact, multichannel, multifrequency, shortwave communication device with headset & earphones.
The trousers precisely met the intended purpose of the purchase.
I selected REI knowing if the merchandise did not meet my satisfactory qualifications, I would be guaranteed return and replacement, or, money back.
ALL THESE CONSIDERATIONS BASED ON MY ALMOST FIVE DECADES OF PERSONAL SATISFACTION WITH REI.

So here's the deal. I was getting ready to travel to Cartagena for the Hay Festival and needed some pants, light in color and feel that would look good right out of my bag and I saw these at the Santa Barbara REI. Tried them on and they felt perfect and from the care instructions, I could see that they would shed wrinkles. They performed eminently well, were incredibly comfortable in the heat and made me feel good about the way I looked. They are GREAT for travel in every way.

Material is uncomfortable and feels cheap. The cut is not very universal. It feels like it was custom made for a very specific body type, someone with narrow thighs and no crotch, I suppose.
I only tried them on once (tags still attached), and decided I will return them next time I'm near the store. I am willing to try a newer version in the future as I like the idea. The execution is not quite there right now.

I have used these trousers for several years. The more recent versions are slightly less presentable in my work and travel/business situations. The previous, blacker-colored trousers were a bit more presentable when I found myself coming out of fieldwork situations right into more formal ones, meeting with government functionaries, or when back at home, teaching in university classrooms. I very much like the secondary, zipped pockets further down the leg; they are great places to keep a phone and my wallet. Sometimes the zipper tags get caught in the turned cloth.
