Comments about REI Immersion Heater 120/240:
Given that this is designed to work at 120 and 240 V, it is so slow at 120 as to be almost useless. It shorts immediately if one pulls the coil out of water before unplugging it-a mistake easily made. A good design should have prevented this. I would not recommend it for travels in 120 V areas. For countries with 220-240 V I would recommend buying one in Europe and using it with an adapter, if necessary, for travels outside the US. (I have used one made in Germany for about 20 years and it still serves me well after oft very extensive use.)

Comments about REI Immersion Heater 120/240:
Excellent build quality and performance, with two plug adaptors and carry bag. Used it on European vacation every day to heat water for coffee in hotel rooms. Worked like a champ. Fast, too. Kudos to REI for designing a complete product. Great example of the REI brand.

Comments about REI Immersion Heater 120/240:
Day one when I bought it and tested it out, the clip that is supposed to support the coil in a cup, broke off very easily and I did not force it. I will be returning this and looking elsewhere for an immersion heater.

Comments about REI Immersion Heater 120/240:
Pay special attention to the directions that inform you to have the unit already immersed into the liquid being heated before you plug it in and unplug it before you remove it from the liquid. If you do not, the unit shorts out quickly. I need to buy a new one before every long trip because at some point toward the end I forget and pull the unit out of the liquid before unplugging and it shorts out. If used correctly, it did a good job of quickly heating small amounts of liquid. Large amounts will take much longer.

Comments about REI Immersion Heater 120/240:
Well made but it took over 18 minutes to bring a cup of water to the boil (some steam and bubbles). The problem is that it provides only 125 Watts at 110 Volts. The good news for the global traveler is that it is rated as 500 Watts at 240 Volts so it should boil the same amount of water in about 5 minutes in the rest of the world!
