Comments about Oboz Wind River Hiking Boots - Men's:
These boots are so good I bought a second pair. My first pair simply wore out on the bottom from so much use. However the top is still in perfect condition. Even the shoe laces are still perfect. I think I bought them (the first pair) about 3 years ago on a recommendation from REI. They were a name I never heard of before so I was rather skeptical. But the construction appeared to be just what I was looking for.
It took a few weeks to break them in. My issue is wide feet, so it took some time for my foot to widen the boot in my little toe area. All other areas of the boot were perfect from day one. They quickly became my all time favorite boots ever. So I was very pleased to get a second pair. They too need the same break in for my wide feet. On comfort and hiking performance, I could not say enough about them! The only negative I found on my first pair is they lost their waterproof ability after a couple of years. But the breathability they provide is much more important for my needs and use.

Comments about Oboz Wind River Hiking Boots - Men's:
I am an avid hiker that has only used trail runners in the past few years for hiking. I recently got into snowshoeing and obviously trail runners won't work for that activity. These boots were on sale so I decided to give them a try. I have used them on a few outings so far for varying distances from 3 miles -6 miles so far and they have been wonderful. It took some adjusting at first since I was used to light weight trail runners, but these boots feel very light for how high they come up on the ankle and the support that they offer. They have proven to be very waterproof after being covered in snow and water for hours and they remain comfortable after a hard days work.
The best thing to me about these boots is that there was no break in period. I put them on the first day and went hiking and never had any blisters or discomfort. This was a first for me when using boots. These boots were also all that I needed for my feet to stay warm in near 0 degree temps in the winter here in Oregon. All I can say is that I love these boots and woud recommend them to anyone.

I always have used Merrill hiking shoes but I wanted a change for winter hiking. Bought my Oboz 3 days before a snowshoeing trip to the Rockies. I did some short hikes on steep snow covered trails to break the boots in. The traction was incrediable.I had all the confidence in my Oboz no matter how steep the trail. The snow was soft and wet and my feet were dry and warm after 4 hours on the trail. The boots were as comfortable as my 4 year old Merrills. The true test was strapping on my snowshoes and climbing through large drifts, ice and major weather to about 11,000 ft. After 8 hours of snowshoeing in snow my feet were dry, warm and comfortable. Can't wait for summer backpacking in my Oboz.

I am an experienced backpacker and retired Marine. I bought these boots a couple years ago and have been very satisfied with their performance. I normally go out for more than 5 days to elevations well over 12,000 ft. The boots performed well with moderate to heavy loads. They provide very good support, but are very light weight. Not water proof, but certainly provide protection from small creeks and water along the trail. Great value for a good quality hiking boot.

Comments about Oboz Wind River Hiking Boots - Men's:
When I originally bought these boots they were great. The very first time I wore them was a 43 mile backpacking trip and they didnt require any break in. The boots are super comfortable and when cleaned/ waterproofed regularly they do great in water. The area I am least impressed in is durability. I have roughly 200 miles of backpacking in these boots (in 2 months) and the outsoles are almost bald. There is very little traction left which was excellent when new. After my last trip (alot of granite and shale) the leather on these boots are torn up. If you are planning on doing and heavy duty rough terrain backpacking I would advise getting a higher quality boot or risk replacing them after 2-3 months like I will be doing soon. The REI salesperson also told me these were made in Bozeman, MT. These boots are made in China and the offices are based in Bozeman. Not a big deal but still. I hope in the future they put some more durable outsoles on these!!

I have had these boots for a good six months and taken them on every kind of terrain imaginable from hot dry desert and rocky trails to mud and snow and streams in Colorado. Heavy packs and light ones. Have walked through running water six inches deep while others hopped across on rocks and never been even slightly wet. With a good pair of high merino hiking socks I am comfortable, dry, and really well supported. Great boot for not a lot of money and my favorite pair of packing boots to date. Can't wait to get the low cut Firebrand 2's. Oboe has me convinced. Only thing wrong is the insert but if you're serious you should be prepared to pick out a separate insert that fits your specific foot anyway. I paid forty bucks for a set I liked and turned these boots into perfection.

I Loved these shoes. Did not need to be broken in. Felt perfect right out of the box. I have a lower back injury and these are terrific. At a later date, I may need to change the insole, but thats no problem.
Were I was hiking, there was light rain and snow. Snowed laid about six inches deep. But the boots stayed dried. Until I slipped and my entire left foot feel into the water, then it wasn't so waterproof, lol. My fault.
I will give them a few more hikes to see how they truly handle. They only been on one, weekend camping trip. Total miles, about six or seven.
Second was standard everyday wear for about three days. The boots are wonderful.
Thanks for readying

This is my favorite pair of boots I own. I am in a light infantry company in Afghanistan and would have to say that they have been holding up very well. The traction is great and keeps my ankles very supportive. If you do buy this pair of boots I would recommend purchasing a 1/2 size larger than you normally would.

Comfortable. Awesome traction. One of the best tread patterns for my type of hiking - great grip.
However...
I hike daily in rocky, abrasive desert conditions. Your experience may be different if you hike in soft, loamy forests on limited occasions.
First pair delaminated after a month. Second pair wore through the sole after less than three months. Materials are not the quality expected in this price range. I do not feel safe in these boots and would never take them on an overnight or backcountry, they just won't hold up.
Tried to love these boots but after two attempts I need to look at another maker.

Comments about Oboz Wind River Hiking Boots - Men's:
These boots are solid. Good support, great traction, even on wet leaves this past weekend in the Smoky's. Mine are definitely waterproof and seem to be reasonably breathable.
The laces are a little difficult to tighten up evenly. The fabric loops at the bottom just don't hold the tension that well as you're lacing up.
