Comments about Sawyer Complete Water Treatment System - 4 Liter:
I bought two of the 4 Liter filter sets for a backpacking trek at Cross Timbers, Lake Texoma to use with 20 people. The water we filtered was relatively clean but not clear. Each 4 Liter bag took 10-20 minutes to filter, not the 3 minutes stated in the instruction manual. After 2-3 uses, we had to backflush the filters to get them working again. When I got home, I used the hose attachment to backflush both sets of filters until the water coming out was totally clear. Then I tried to filter tap water. One filter took 15 minutes for 4 liters; I stopped the second filter after 30 minutes and only 2 liters running through. I am very disappointed because I also have the Sawyer Squeeze filter which works great. I don't know if I got two bad sets, but I'm reluctant to take another chance when I go to Arkansas this summer for a 30 mile hike.

Comments about Sawyer Complete Water Treatment System - 4 Liter:
I agree with those who say this is an excellent filter: it definitely is. No doubt about that. This is my 3rd Sawyer filter and they all are highly recommendable. However, I must say that in this case I was a bit disappointed with the "suspension system", if you can call it that; it's a 10" strap with a D-ring on one end and a #2 plastic Nite Ize S-Biner on the other... That's it. And I don't mean one for each bag… Nope, that's the entire solution for hanging the complete system… (!) I really think that for the price the people at Sawyer could have dedicated a bit more time to designing a way to actually USE their great filters... I understand that most people like to tinker with their equipment, and they definitely won't be let down here, because saying that this filter is ready to use straight out of the box is simply not true. Tinkering is REQUIRED… Otherwise your two options are: A.- look for a branch that's exactly the right height (and we're talking 7' approx.) and either hang everything in a "daisy-chain", causing great stress on the connections and joints, or B.- to avoid the tension, only hang the "dirty" bag on a lower branch and leave the "clean" bag on the ground, but this makes the pouring part a hassle... As I said, relatively minor issues with easy fixes, but necessary fixes non-the-less.

This is my first review. As a nurse specializing in infectious disease, good water while hiking is very important to say the least. I wanted more than the 0.2 micron filtration that many other products provide. This one has it!
This Sawyer system is so easy to use. It filters very quickly, although alittle longer than the specs state by a minute. However, you can set it up and go on to other things to do when setting up camp and then fresh water is ready for you!
Thanks for a great product!!

Comments about Sawyer Complete Water Treatment System - 4 Liter:
This was a much heavier product than I thought it would be. Certainly won't be carrying it on a solo hike. Bags are thicker than they need to be and the caps are way to heavy for what they need to be. I would love to see an ultra lite version of this set up.

Comments about Sawyer Complete Water Treatment System - 4 Liter:
I use this filter while backpacking or camping. It is a little complicated to learn how the peices go together, but once you do this is the best filtration system I have ever used! I really like that you don't have to buy replacement filters, you can just reverse the filter and it cleans itself! I am very impressed with this sytem, and will buying a second one for backup for when it wears out! It is not great for hiking, as you would have to stop and set it up. I am buying a small pump filter for longer hiking trips.

Comments about Sawyer Complete Water Treatment System - 4 Liter:
We love this water filter. All you have to do is fill the dirty bag, prime the filter and then sit back while it does all the work. I have never used a pump filter and don't see any reason to ever change. The extra capacity is great when we are backpacking with the whole family. Plus it gives so much flexibility for extra water storage and hydration pack.
One thing I do find helpful is to keep something with the filter to scoop water. If you have a shallow or slow moving water source it is almost impossible to fill the dirty bag. I cut a 20 oz bottle in half and keep it with the filter.

Comments about Sawyer Complete Water Treatment System - 4 Liter:
Just returned from a 23 mile 3 day two night backpacking trip with a small group (5 boys, 3 adults)as part of a Boy Scout trip. While we had backup pump style water filters, we used this Sawyer 4 Liter gravity filter exclusively. It worked great! Very simple to setup and use and it provided water for the group very reliably and fast. The second night, we camped in a location that made access to water more difficult. Two of us brought the dirty and clean bags with us up trail to access water by climbing down a steep hillside and climbing across some large rocks. Filtered the water on the spot, then filled the dirty bag and returned to camp with 4 clean and 4 dirty liters for later filtering. Very convenient. It is a bit bulky...recommend getting a small stuff sack to store it in. We also used Sweetwater drops as an added precaution.

Comments about Sawyer Complete Water Treatment System - 4 Liter:
This system is amazing! Forget spending a half hour pumping water from a stream or lake. It takes maybe 1 - 2 minutes to fill the grey bag, connect it, hang it, and you have 4 liters of potable water in about 5 minutes. I used a designated "dirty water" bottle to fill the grey bag. One thing to watch out for, the grey tube could be snapped directly into the blue bag without the filter in line.

Comments about Sawyer Complete Water Treatment System - 4 Liter:
After researching various filtration systems, and based in part on the reviews purchased this for a 5 day hike in Yosemite. Great for groups of 3 or more as it filters large volume of water quickly. Had our 3 liter hydration packs refilled and enough water for camp cooking/cleaning within 30 minutes. Filled from streams, lakes and ponds with no bacteria problems. The handles do seem a bit flimsy-will see how well they hold up with repeated use.
