Comments about Sea to Summit X-Bowl:

This is yet another great product from Sea-to-Summit.

The bowl is pretty sturdy and does not collapse while eating soup or cereal. Yet if packs perfectly flat and fits in the bottom of my pot. The cup nests inside the bowl. That means my stove, bowl, and cup all fit inside the pot, which save a huge amount of room.

The bottom is really durable, and I use it as a cutting board. Never have I noticed any odor or taste from the bowl itself.

The bowl sometimes is a bit hard to clean if you don't have it all the way extended, but not that bad.

Comments about Sea to Summit X-Bowl:

Note: I have not used this for backpacking. I bought it to give my dog water on long walks/hikes. It's cheaper and more compact than the fabric travel dog water bowls you see. I'm very glad I got this....it's cheaper, more waterproof, and less messy than the dog bowls that exist.

Comments about Sea to Summit X-Bowl:

I used this product occassionally since it first came out (6-8 times a year for I'm guessing the last 5 years or so) primarily on 4-5 day backpacking trips. Rcently I noticed that the silicone was cracking all over (similar look to dry rot on an old tire but not as obvious) This past trip I noticed that holes had developed along the seams where the bowl folds. I did not use this bowl all that often, and felt it should have lasted longer. It was a cool idea, and a neat design, but the silicone doesn't seem to hold up where the bowl folds down, and over time the silicone seems to crack all over. I might still buy another, as it works well for those times when I want a bowl, but overall I feel it should have lasted longer.

Comments about Sea to Summit X-Bowl:

This little bowl is one of the sweetest gadgets I've encountered on my journey to stay a minimalist backpacker. I love the fact that it's easy to store and holds a decent amount of food. Great design and I love the fact that you can use the bowls base as a mini cutting board when needed. My only regret is that there isn't one that's bigger. I will however buy the plate and mug that belong to this set for my trip to the Emigrant Wilderness.

Comments about Sea to Summit X-Bowl:

I bought this last summer and have only used in maybe 4-5 times and it ripped. I wasn't rough with it at all, I was just cleaning it and the plastric part that folds got a rip in it that stretched over half way around. It still can work as a plate, but not as a bowl. Before it ripped I was happy with its performance, however I found the plate function a little on the small side.

Comments about Sea to Summit X-Bowl:

I have been using these bowls for a few years and they have held up beautifully, though I haven't used the bottoms as an optional cutting board. They have held up well to hot food. Perhaps they are a little bulky for some, but their profile design fits well in the storage bag for my camping cook set.

My only knock on this product is that one really has to clean these bowls diligently to get certain scents from them (Ramen noodles, soups, etc.). Perhaps this has something to do with the materials used. That being said, though, they are not very difficult to clean. I have taken good care of this product and it has done the same in return.

Since they are dishwasher/microwave safe, according to the manufacturer's website, I am thinking about picking another one up to use at work.

Comments about Sea to Summit X-Bowl:

I day trip and take extended (5-14 day) backwoods trips, and I love this bowl for both. It packs flat, which is huge when day tripping or hunting with just a patrol/butt pack, and tho it weighs more than a titanium bowl, the Ti bowls don't pack flat. Coupled with my canteen cup, its perfect for a day hike to the top of Mt. Washington. I used to cook and eat with my cup, but now I can keep my cup clean for boiling water in and use the bowl for eating. If you're a minimalist like me, there isn't a better product out there for the money. I've eaten at least 50 meals out of it, most using boiling water (ramen, oatmeal, condensed soup, fresh venison stew) and it still works like a charm. The only downside is it is too hot to hold when adding hot water, which is why I give it only 4 stars. In the end, I'll never use any other bowl again.

Comments about Sea to Summit X-Bowl:

I like the idea of this bowl - it flattens down so that it is easy to pack. But, it adds a plastic/rubber taste to hot food. I usually clean my bowl by rinsing with hot water that I drink. This water tasted like it came from a rubber hose. Also, the bowl is difficult to clean - food adheres to the rubber top part in the creases where it folds. Whereas a smooth bowl was cleaned easily by swishing water around with a spoon, this bowl required using a finger to scrape the food out of the cracks.

A bit on the heavy side, but does the job when and doesn't take much room up when collapsed. Be careful when using as a cutting board that you don't nick the sidewalls or you'll have a bowl with a hole in it.
