The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.
Rated1out of5bydsh27fromFragileThese broke on my first time using them. REI was really nice about taking them back, but basically I don't think they are good for walking on any surfaces that are not relatively smooth. The corners of ice chunks did them in.

Rated4out of5bymudfromyaktrax proyaktrax are great on everything but solid smooth ice. They do help on solid ice but you might want micro spikes for that. nice and light. great for running. They do eventually break. You would have to make them heavier for them to last longer. I'll take them as they are and buy a new pair when needed.

Rated5out of5bybike2skifromStay uprightYak Traks are awesome at keeping you upright on snow and ice. They are comfortable and easy to use. Strongly recommend the Pro as the velcro strap keeps them securely in place. I have several pair so I don't get caught without them when I need them.

Rated1out of5byGeoJimmyfromTreat as disposable. If you just want to walk to your mailbox or car, they can do the job. If you want to use them for more than a mile or so, plan on trashing them by the end of the season. They are very easy to use over tennis shoes but lack the beefy straps needed for staying on boots. Even with the single strap, they often pull off any shoe in wet, icy snow. The rubber that makes them so easy to put on is also their downfall. The springs ultimately grind through the rubber as you walk. Thus, you better carry some twist ties or wire with you to fix them if you are on a hike.
I warningly recommend these ONLY for short seasonal use and for limited frequency and distance.
For serious use, upgrade to real crampons like Kahtoola's or Black Diamonds'

Rated5out of5bychisler26fromgreat investmentI bought these so I could run outside in the winter without fear of falling. I was a bit leary the first time I used them thinking they would hinder my step or feel akward on my foot. I didn't experience any problems and really didn't feel any difference in my step. I recommend them if you run outside in snow and ice.

Rated1out of5byMozzerfromThey breakThey grip well on most surfaces but will snap (two pairs now) if you catch them on a rock. The issue is the rubber which goes around the boot and under the sole. At the edge of the sole the rubber will break if you catch a rock.

Rated2out of5byStill looking for a laptop bagfromGood while they lastI bought the YakTracx Pros several years ago before a winter photo trip to Yellowstone but didn't need them at the time. This past winter I used them for another photo trip which required hiking for about an hour and then standing around for several hours on packed snow. I did this for two days and at the end of the second day discovered that one of the rubber "bands" inside the steel coils had broken. The Yaktrax worked well on the packed snow providing good traction without making the hiking difficult. But I was disappointed that they didn't last very long under what I considered to be relatively mild use. I need to find something else before my next winter photo trip.
