Comments about REI Hang-up Clothesline:
This would be really useful if the clips didn't slide along the line. There was no way we could position the line (or get it taught enough) so the garments didn't all slurp together in the middle. We had to anchor one garment around a tree at one end (tied the ends of long johns around it), and double clip all other garments to branch from that, to keep them spread out along the line. Better to bring your own line and clothes pins. Cute product, but worthless.

Comments about REI Hang-up Clothesline:
I bought this for travel. The clips are flimsy -- the first one I touched broke off. More important, they slide very freely, so that if there is the slightest slope to the line everything will wind up bunched together at the lower end. The line is too long and does not attach easily.

Comments about REI Hang-up Clothesline:
A frequent complaint for this product is the pins slide, the line sags, and everything bunches to the lowest point. Here's how to prevent that:
Hang the line with a decent bit of slack in it. Put the pin where you want it. Take the line and wrap it once around the pin passing it thru the open jaw of the pin so the line is deep in the "v" created by the open jaw. Put whatever you're hanging in the jaw and close it. Repeat w/the other pins. The friction of the wrap will limit the slide of the pin. Tension the line if its too loose after you've hung your items.

Comments about REI Hang-up Clothesline:
when this came out it was the only option, so i bought it and i do not regret it. I've had it for years and i still use it. The string is very strong and it takes some creativity to use it well.
The clips are very strong but don't last. They break easily when you release them to take the clothes. I lost about several already but that's like over 5 years of usage. I take more than 5 trips a year!!
Oh it also gets tangled up like most strings..but is easier to untangle due to the material.
So not bad, but need improvement. I use the string and buy cheap clothing clips from dollar stores. i am glad it exists...until something better comes along...=)

Comments about REI Hang-up Clothesline:
The line is strong, light, and plenty long, and I like the reflective strand.
The tightening clasp doesn't work well at all. I removed the clasp, strap, and clip on that end, and use a taut-line hitch knot instead.
I like how small and strong the clips are, but I don't understand why they are oriented perpendicular to the line. This is OK for an item that requires one clip, but not items requiring more. Even with the line taut and level, the clips slide and bunch together in the middle. Tying a knot on each makes adjusting them cumbersome, and clipping the line along with the item makes for a twisted mess. I removed the clips and use them like ordinary clothespins.
This required too much modification to work well. You are better off constructing your own for a few dollars.

Comments about REI Hang-up Clothesline:
The main problem is that the clips don't hold very well. You have to use too many to hand a normal shirt. I ended up just drapping most of my items over the top. I could have used para cord to do that.

Comments about REI Hang-up Clothesline:
This is not worth it, even for free! It is terrible. The clips broke (when I dropped then from a foot high), the rope snapped (with delicate tension), and it sits awkwardly in the tent. Listen: Buy 50 ft. of 550 Paracord (for about $6) and a pack of 100 plastic closepin hooks (for $0.50), and two heavy duty plastic, lightweight hangers ($1), and don't even look any further into this product. Cut the cord to the length you need and take a couple of hooks and a hanger. Please, don't spend around $10 and waste your time for $0.50 worth of rope and hooks.

Comments about REI Hang-up Clothesline:
Bought this for safari where we are required to wash our own "smalls". Tied each end of the line around a stationary object rather than using the clips to secure it. It held socks, wash clothes, and undies with no problem. Sometimes I skipped using the clips as everything just slid to the center. Only down side is the small piece of black ribbon at one end. It touched a wet t-shirt hanging on the line and bled black dye on the shirt.

Comments about REI Hang-up Clothesline:
With 3 under 5 we usually end up hanging alot of swim clothes when we go camping. One thing we've found is that whatever we bring when we go car camping, it can't have too many parts and it cannot take up too much space. The REI clothesline definitely does that. We've used this clothesline for almost 3 years and it's been working okay. There are 4 problems with it: 1) the clothes bunch up together, 2) the tab that holds the clothes onto the line breaks easily, 3) there are not enough tab holders, and 4) if the tabs break off, there is no way to replace it. Recently, we purchased the Sea to Summit clothesline and it is a vast improvement over this clothesline. We recommend using that product instead.

Comments about REI Hang-up Clothesline:
We used this clothesline on several trips- Egypt for 3 weeks, SE Asia for 3 weeks, African Safari for 3 weeks and now it will go to Israel for 3 weeks! Because of this, we keep it in our travel bag. Now we need one for our RV! It has been a wonderful lifesaver and by hanging clothes with one clip to the end of two items hanging side by side, it rarely slips. Especially when we put the first clip behind the attachment to the chair, doorknob, tree, window latch, shower curtain, etc. This is a wonderful product...thus we're ordering a second one.
