Comments about REI Merino Wool Hiking Socks:
I've purchased this sock for years. About 6 months ago, being a guy and hating to sort socks, I purchased 14 pairs and threw out all my old socks so I could just reach into my drawer and pull out two socks and "go to town". Big mistake. After 6 months of light (but daily) use the same seam in the heel completely separates. I've already thrown out half of the socks! I don't know what changed in their manufacturing process but it wasn't good. Very disappointing.

Comments about REI Merino Wool Hiking Socks:
One of the best socks you can buy for the price. Use both the REI Medium hiking sock and the Danner. On my feet hiking the range 8-10 hours a day and these socks give me at least 75 days of usage. I start 5:00am when its cold and work into the heat of the day and my feet and toes keep very comfortable, even when wet. I gladly recommend them as a NPS and DOD professional.

Comments about REI Merino Wool Hiking Socks:
These REI brand socks last way longer than the Smartwools that I have owned. They are the perfect weight and fit. The tops eventually stretch out after a year or so of daily use, but that happens to all of them. These are my go-to wool socks.

Comments about REI Merino Wool Hiking Socks:
I'm used to a single layer of light hiking sock for backpacking. But when I got new boots I initially felt the need for extra blister protection, so I got these socks along with a pair of REI liners. I wrote a review for those also (3 of 5 stars). These socks are comfy and would be great for wearing around the house on a cold day or shoveling snow. But my feet weren't happy with them even on a short 2-mile walk around town, so they are not my choice of backpacking socks.
When used with the liners my feet slid forward and my toes got smooshed inside the sock. That gave my feet cramps even though I still had plenty of toe room in the boot. Is that a problem with these socks or the liners? I blamed the liners, so I didn't take away stars for these socks because of that. My foot overall felt cramped in my boots, which I do blame on these socks, but since high volume is kinda the point, I didn't take away stars for these socks because of that either.
When used without the liners the sock bunched up. I'd guess blisters might be a problem without liners, since I started feeling a hot spot on my heel within 2 miles. Also the socks stretched with use, making the fit less...fitting. These are the reasons I gave it 3 stars. And it's also why I returned them. I'm sticking with my Wigwan Cool-lite socks, which prevent blisters, don't bunch up, don't slide, and so on.

Comments about REI Merino Wool Hiking Socks:
One of the most comfortable socks I've had--too bad they don't last. Within two weeks of occasional usage hiking and skiing, one had blown out at the toes, another had great puffs of material fuzzing out on the side of the foot. Took them both back. There are many better options out there for [$] a pop.

Comments about REI Merino Wool Hiking Socks:
Great socks so far. My first Merino wool socks and they work fine for me. I have worn them around a few times and wore one pair on an over night 14 miler in Collins Gulf. I served in the Infantry so i'm used to sock changes but I found no need to change during this short trip.

Comments about REI Merino Wool Hiking Socks:
These are absolutely great socks. I wear them when I go for walks, hikes and even when I'm just at home. They're definitely the most comfortable socks I own.
I got the large and they fit wonderfully (I'm a male, size 12)
I will be buying more pairs of these socks very soon. I Love them!

Used these for a trek up Fuji San in late summer. These socks kept my feet a perfect temp and provided great comfort during our 14hr journey.

Decided to try a few pairs of these socks, got hooked, bought several more pairs, and donated all my cotton crew socks to charity. I'm now using these for everyday wear as well as hiking, and will use them for running in cooler weather.

they work great. the only thing i would say about them is they tend to be a little bit heavier than a pair of smartwool socks. they're also almost half the price. I've bought 6 pairs. they work
