Comments about Backpacker's Pantry Huevos Rancheros - 2 Servings:

I just need to repeat the point that Mitch makes in his review. People really need to read the package and realize what they are buying. These are not freeze dried eggs they are POWDERED eggs. When you add hot water to this it makes beaten raw eggs not cooked eggs like a freeze dried product. As such they cost less that half what the Mountain House eggs cost.
I have found these very helpful in a variety of recipes and once cooked are pretty good on their own with the addition of a little more spice. But that's just my taste most folks will find them fine just as they are.

Comments about Backpacker's Pantry Huevos Rancheros - 2 Servings:

I usually don't post reviews, but I was reading the other reviews about this breakfast, and I think a lot of them are related to user-error. It sounds like people aren't following the cooking instructions. Backpacker's Pantry eggs need to be cooked in a skillet. They're not like Mountain House eggs that you just add boiling water to. And, even though they take a little more work, I think Backpacker's Pantry eggs are really really tasty. Nice job Backpacker's Pantry. It's spicy and has really good flavor, and the beans give added protein for us vegetarians. Other people considering buying this product - if you follow the cooking instructions, you'll be very very pleased!

Just picked this up on a whim while on my way out of town to camp. What a disappointment! It was runny and gross to eat. The flavor wasn't so bad, but it was like egg soup. Not a good effort on the part of Backpacker's Pantry.

It didn't asorb the water and I could see the powder floating around. I tried a bean and it was still crunchy. I let it sit twice as long as directed just to be sure. When I dumped it out it looked like vomit which pretty much sums it up.

I had been leary of trying rehydrated eggs and after eating this nasty egg soup concoction I now know why. The flavor wasn't to bad but the beans took forever to rehydrate and the eggs turned into a gritty soup like mixture that together was one of the most awful things I've ever eaten. They should use this stuff on fear factor!

For a distaer readiness kit, this is not badm however; for mountaineering it is unpractical because you need a pan to cook food in, where other freeze dried meals simply need a hot water added into the package. With that kind of convenience, Backpackers Pantry meals are antiquated, unless you want to carry extra pans and clean after your finished cooking.

This stuff was horrible. We had used a different breakfast from "another brand" the day before and that was pretty good. If we had started out eating this one I would never have even tried eating another one. This was not worth buying or eating. I would rather just eat a nice packet of instant oatmeal than this grainy, tasteless stuff.

We had these on a recent trip to the BWCA, and of the three people on the trip, one liked them and went back for seconds, one thought they were good but not great, and one thought they were ok but said he'd bring them again. Prep was fine, other than our cook not reading the bit about using a non-stick pan; even so, the finished product was quite edible.

I tried these eggs 2 times. Each time the eggs were very runny and did not care for the texture. Once I drained the excess liquid, the texture was better but felt I lost a lot of flavor. They were very salty too.

The only reason I did not give this a 1 is because they are still better than the old, original military style eggs and they were edible (where some meals are not even edible).

I won't buy this again. They used powdered eggs and mixed in some spices. I came out with a very disgusting look. The taste was barely okay. If it was all I had, I would eat it, but I would look around very hard for something else. I would stick with a brand that used freeze-dried eggs instead of powdered eggs.
