Comments about Outdoor Research Seattle Sombrero:
A friend introduced me to the Seattle Sombrero over 15 years ago, but I did not need one at the time. A few years ago I had a need for a stylish rain hat and remembered the SS.
I've had two of them now and I love them. They are too warm for summer, as there is a thin insulating layer in the crown, but it sure feels good most of the year. I wish the price were a bit lower, but obviously I was willing to pay it!

Comments about Outdoor Research Seattle Sombrero:
Great looking hat that fits well and packs easily in a suitcase. Great for cold weather. But be warned, not a good choice for warm or hot weather (used it in French Polynesia—think hot and humid—and wasn't a happy camper—my error in judgement.

Great for hiking/backpacking in the rain and snow.
The headband is too hot for summer use.
I bought one for myself and liked it so much, I bought one for a friend.

Comments about Outdoor Research Seattle Sombrero:
This thing is the bomb! Yes it's warm, that's whst the (micro) fleece liner is for!! Who buys fleece lined goretex and expects to wear it in summer heat? I walk 5+ miles every other day at a good pace. This thing is wonderful in typical late fall, winter, and early spring rains here in Seattle, typically 35-45 degrees F. It sheds rain like a ducks' back. The brim does tend to flop around in gusty winds, but in winds that strong a brimmed hat will either flop around (if the brim is flexible) or generate enough lift to tend to get blown off (if the brim is stiff.) The problem is the wind and the wing-like brim, not any particular hat or design. I do like the idea of snaps instead of velcro, but not enough to avoid buying the hat or dinging it in reviews. I bought this hat wanting it to keep my head warm in the constant 35-45 deg F rains of western Washington, and it excels at that!!

Comments about Outdoor Research Seattle Sombrero:
This is the perfect hat for spending a significant amount of time in the rain. I love that it is waterproof and will keep your head dry. I have used this hat extensively in Alaska and fishing the northern Minnesota and it has never let me down. It is very packable and will roll-up and fit in a pocket while not is use. It is also lightweight so you feel like your not even wearing it. It might be a little warm for the middle of the summer but it does great the rest of the year.

Comments about Outdoor Research Seattle Sombrero:
My job requires I supervise the loading of a cargo plane. Last year I was kept dry by the hood on my Helly Hansen rain coat. The problem I have with a hood is it blocks my peripheral vision. The chin strap on this hat keeps it on my head when the wind is blowing and the wide brim keeps the rain from running down the collar of my rain jacket. I got this hat at REI in October the day before the constant rains began. I have used it every day at work since and wish I had bought this hat last year. I'll buy another Seattle Sombrero when it wears out and have already given one as a gift. It is the perfect rain hat.

I purchased this hat to increase sun protection in the cooler/cold weather. It is great! Well constructed, warm, fits well, seems tough (so far), and water proof. Highly recommended.

I like this hat. It looks good. It's totally flexible. I can even put it in my pocket. If it's too hot out, I can soak it with water. Way cool.
