Kanawha State Forest
Charleston, WV

Kanawha State Forest
Kanawha State Forest has been under state control for over seven decades. The city of Charleston has spread to Kanawha, and that growth has made the natural world of Kanawha that much more valuable. When you are back here, it is hard to believe the gold capital dome is just a few ridges away. The Davis Creek Camping Area has a rustic aura to it, and some park facilities, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, add an old-timey touch. But the daily drawing cards are the trails that bring mountain bikers, hikers, and horseback riders to comb the hills and valleys of the Kanawha.
