Island Campground
Island Campground, located on an island of the East Fork Greenbrier River, is small and rustic. Since it is open year-round, it can be a destination on milder days during the cooler months. Hikers and anglers enjoy the little-used gem of the East Fork Trail, which starts at the campground. Other natural nearby attractions are Lake Buffalo, also with hiking and fishing opportunities, and Gaudineer Scenic Area, which features an old-growth spruce stand. The Civil War–era Cheat Summit Fort also merits a visit. Island Campground makes a fine base camp for exploring the East Fork Greenbrier Valley. The East Fork Trail runs along this stream and has proven a pleasure in any season. Spring brings wildflowers aplenty. In summer, anglers vie for trout or cool off in swimming holes.
