Pine Valley Mountains

Pine Valley Mountains
A moderately difficult two-day loop hike in the Pine Valley Wilderness. The range is located in the extreme southwest corner of the state and offers backcountry solitude in rugged country. The Pine Valley Mountains rise 3,500 feet from the floor of the Colorado Plateau and Great Basin to 10,000-foot peaks forested by virgin Engelmann spruce. Water is one of the most valuable resources in the range. The Pine Valleys are a major source for the Ash Creek, Virgin River, and Santa Clara River drainages. This mountain island surrounded by desert offers wildlife habitat for a large cougar population, mule deer, golden eagle, and beaver.
