Ohiopyle State Park
North of the tristate border of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Maryland, this 19,046-acre Pennsylvania state park cradles a 14-mile stretch of the impressive Youghiogheny River as it cuts through Laurel Highlands. The spectacular setting boasts both whitewater excitement and a variety of hikes. Besides serving as a gateway to the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail and a host to the Youghiogheny River Rail Trail, this park offers foot trails that explore a unique natural area, visit river and tributary waterfalls, and top rocky promontories to survey the 1,700-foot-deep gorge. Four foot trails introduce the park from river to ridge. Special attractions: Youghiogheny River; Ferncliff Peninsula, a national natural landmark; Ohiopyle Falls; tree fossils; oldgrowth forest; rhododendron, laurel, and azalea blooms; scenic cliffs; fall foliage.
