Appalachian Trail: Peters Mountain Ridge to Clark Creek
Clarks Ferry, PA

Appalachian Trail: Peters Mountain Ridge to Clark Creek
Views of the wide, blue Susquehanna River from Shikellimy Rocks and Table Rock are the expected highlights on this rocky, if fairly level, ridgetop walk, but don't be surprised if your most memorable sight turns out to be a Pennsylvania black bear. Peters Mountain is prime bruin habitat - unpopulated, remote, roadless. Plus, when bears run amuck in nearby Harrisburg or its sprawling suburbs, they are often trapped or tranquilized and relocated to the mountain's state Game Lands, creating a kind of minimum security penal colony. Natural history features: Table Rock; Shikellimy Rocks; Peters Mountain. Other feature: Climbing fumitory (a mountain vine).
