Appalachian Trail: Center Point Knob & Boiling Springs
Mount Holly Springs, PA

Appalachian Trail: Center Point Knob & Boiling Springs
This rollercoaster hike rides up and down the northern end of the Blue Ridge Mountains, which the AT has been following since Georgia, then smoothes out with some field hiking through the agrarian Cumberland Valley. The contrast from woodlands to rocky outcroppings to lowlands give hikers ample opportunity to experience a great variety of geology on a relatively short and easy hike. An added bonus is the dictionary-definition-quaint town of Boiling Springs, punctuating the end of this hike like some scaled-down, Victorian-era Oz. Natural history features: Rocky Ridge; Whiskey Spring; northern terminus of Blue Ridge Mountains; Campbell Spring; Yellow Breeches Creek; Boiling Springs. Social history features: Onetime mid-point of the AT at Center Point Knob; Children's Lake; Carlisle Iron Works.
