Crater Lake, North Entrance
A different view of the Crater Lake caldera is reached via the unplowed north entrance road. Skiers earn spectacular views from the north rim by skiing more than 9 miles one-way and climbing more than 1500 feet. The road is a groomed snowmobile route. In spite of the presence of snowmobiles, the north rim is less hectic than busy Rim Village on the south rim. The Pumice Desert, a third of the distance to the rim, is an easy and rewarding tour for novice skiers. The huge plain of volcanic rock offers views of the Cascade Range to the north. Track Quality: Good classic skiing, fair skating
