Sourland Mountain Ridge Loop
Are you familiar with that kids? game, Scissors, Paper, Stone? This hike abbreviates that to Stones. You?ll be stepping over egg-sized stones, fist-sized stones, stones like bocce balls, and some that are larger than cantaloupes?really big cantaloupes. Don?t worry . . . boardwalks and bridges carry you over the worst of those, preventing this from becoming a prolonged exercise in ankle-aching agony. Meanwhile, the many winding streams, bird-filled stands of cedars, and easy bushwhacks to a pair of thrilling boulder cataclysms add up to an excellent, memorable outing. Scenery: Lush second-growth hardwood forest, bisected by a few streams and Texas Eastern Pipeline, boasts fantastic boulders and discrete vernal ponds.
