Mount Washington is the highest peak in the northeastern United States. Some rock and boulder scrambling is required at higher elevations. Expect significant exposure to cold, wind, sun, and rain above tree line, and remember that severe weather can be a risk. The summit area provides spectacular 360-degree views of northern New England. TRAIL SURFACE Dirt below Hermit Lake Shelters; rocky and boulder-strewn above.
