Las Vegas, NV
Located on the northwest side of the Las Vegas Valley, Lone Mountain juts out of the horizon as a prelude to the larger mountains to the west. This short hike is easily accessed from Las Vegas since it is in town, and would make a great evening hike or short weekend hike when the dogs are just itching to get out. The trail does have some loose terrain and quite an incline, so it may not be suitable for older dogs. The trail puts you at the top of Lone Mountain, so get ready for 360-degree views of the entire valley! This is one of only two hikes in this book where dogs are not required to be on leash. Since there can be many people in this area, at minimum make sure your dog is under control, with good response to voice commands. Under foot and paw: Dirt and rock.
