The view from Black Mountain, the highest point in the North McCullough Range, is sure to clear up anyone’s chronic claustrophobia. On clear days, you will be able to see Spirit Mountain to the south; deep into Arizona to the east; Mt. Potosi, Red Rock Canyon, and the Spring Mountains to the west; and the Sheep Range, the Muddy Mountains, and the Mormon Mountains to the north—not to mention all of Las Vegas filling the valley at your feet. In 2002, Congress designated the Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area and North McCullough Wilderness Area, which forever protect the North McCullough Mountains from the encroachment of sprawl. Vehicle: HC/4WD.
