Big Hole Battlefield
The National Park Service reminds visitors that the Nez Perce consider this a sacred place. Winter is considered a time for the people of the doomed encampment to sleep. Self-guided snowshoe and ski tours access the historic sites. Visitors should arrive during daylight, get an interpretive trail guide, and plan four hours to ski and view indoor exhibits. Ranger-led programs tour the battlefield (skis only) several times during the winter. Surface quality: Machine-groomed as needed.
