Wachusett Reservoir and Reservation Trail

Approximately 8,000 acres of water and woods, maintained by the Department of Conservation and Recreation, offer tremendous hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and wildlife watching. Wachusett Reservoir was created in 1895 to solve the water needs of the greater Boston area. Today, the reservoir still supplies water to Boston (with the help of Quabbin Reservoir), but it also serves as an important wildlife reservation.
