Parker River National Wildlife Refuge
South of Newburyport. Short nature trails explore the various habitats and offer refuge overlooks. When open, the beach offers 6.5 miles of uninterrupted strolling. Special attractions: Nesting piping plover and migrating shorebirds and waterfowl; summer-flocking swallows; plum and cranberry picking (from the Tuesday after Labor Day through October 31); claming; surf fishing; observation platforms and blinds.
