Estes Lake
Estes Lake is a long, widened section of river, backed up behind a small hydroelectric dam on the Mousam River. The northern three quarters of Estes Lake is actually part of the Middle Branch of the Mousam River, as the main river comes into the lake near the south end. As of this writing, there is no official public boat access on Estes Lake. As a result of the recent Federal Energy Regulatory Commission relicensing procedure, however, the dam operator must provide public access. Because of pressure from the Estes Lake Association, the dam operator will provide only carry-in access. Prominent fish species: smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, and chain pickerel.
