Turkey Foot Campground
Normally shunning most campgrounds on busy summer holidays, my experience and camping intuition told me that Turkey Foot would have sites available on the fourth of July. I was right, and I shared the 15-site campground with only two other groups. (For the sake of full disclosure, heavy thunderstorms were predicted for that day. And they did come, but the day was far from a complete washout.) Turkey Foot is neither near a big lake nor has obvious more-popular recreation opportunities. Rather, it is an old-fashioned campground where you make your own fun. And it wasn’t hard, with the Sheltowee Trace Trail nearby and War Fork Creek for fishing.
