Loud Thunder Forest Preserve
At 1,621 acres, Loud Thunder is the largest and most picturesque of the Rock Island County Forest Preserves. There are miles of multiuse trails, beautiful views of the Mississippi River, and 167-acre Lake George, nestled amid the forested hills. With the Quad Cities just to the north, Loud Thunder is popular on weekends, but five separate campgrounds with a total of 115 sites offer plenty of choices for tent campers.
