Spirit Lake - Brickel Creek
From Spirit Lake, Idaho, to Mount Spokane, Washington, via Brickel Creek. At 30+ miles and more than 2000 feet of accumulative climbing, this is a big ride, yet not one mile is boring or porcine. From smooth, but curvy cruising to a sustained, yet friendly grade with enough obstacles thrown in to hold your attention, this out-and-back shows you a different personality on the descent. Facing north and east, it offers almost full shade most of the route; it stays cool and protected on even the hottest summer days. Following Brickel Creek on an old rail bed, you're treated to waterfalls, pools, and hidden little pockets of life while ascending at a civilized rate. Wildlife, from owls to cougar, are here, so keep your bear bells on. The trail has 8 miles pavement and 22.8 miles forest road/doubletrack.
