Schweitzer Mountain
Eleven miles north of Sandpoint, Idaho. The views of Lake Pend Oreille are classic postcard/ski magazine cover shots. The ski area road is the fastest, highest access to the southern Selkirks. This ride will give you a workout and introduce you to the Nordic trails and fun singletrack found in the lower eastern reaches of this area. There's a great, newly constructed singletrack, Nature Trail, that also leads to the top, but in the wisdom of the ski area which at this time is going through a major restructuring, bikes are off-limits on that trail. There's also a full service hotel/restaurant (the Green Gables) that's open through the summer. The high-speed quad lift to the top runs Friday, Saturday, Sunday and it will take bikes during the summer firm mid-June through Labor Day. It's best to call ahead to make sure the quad is running. The trail has 7 miles ski road/doubletrack and 0.9 miles singletrack.
