Winter Hike to Cub Lake
Famous in summer for flowers, butterflies, and birds, the Cub Lake Trail presents a different but still fascinating face in winter. The lushness of summer falls away, leaving a scene dominated by angular patterns, bold shapes, and subdued tones rather than individual splashes of brightly colored flora and fauna that attract attention in warm months. For more than a mile, the trail is mostly flat and easy, usually with little snow. The last mile is steeper. Ice or sections of deep snow can make the way difficult, requiring snowshoes or skis. Highlights: Ice patterns, wildlife, Cub Lake.
