Weller Lake Trail
Like yin and yang, the two faces of Weller Lake are opposites, yet harmonize perfectly. On the south- and west-facing slopes a thick forest grows; on the north- and east-facing slopes, the naked rock skeleton of the mountains disdains flora, and a broad swatch of dead trees stretches up toward the gray summits. A soft seat on the duff that forms the floor of the campsite at the north end of the lake is the perfect place to contemplate this juxtaposition. The Weller Lake Trail climbs steadily through forest to its destination, but it’s not particularly steep. If by serendipity you walk this path in autumn, you will catch fiery aspen trees at their best, painting the sunlight amber and dropping circlets of gold on the brown path.
