Watrous Gulch Trail
Denver, CO

Watrous Gulch Trail
Watrous Gulch is also under leash restrictions, but it is far less popular than the Herman Lake Trail, although it has features that you and your dog will enjoy. After passing through a forest where there is significant fallen timber, the trail emerges at timberline at Watrous Creek. This is a shallow, wide and slow-moving stream that can be crossed easily by hopping from rock to rock. Your dog will enjoy the cool water and the opportunity to splash around. Beyond the creek, the trail turns north and ascends the gulch through luxuriant grasses and fields of wildflowers. The incline is moderate and there are numerous places where you can stop and let your pet roll in the grass. Sign in at the register, then proceed on a narrow trail for a short distance to a Forest Service sign indicating Herman Lake to the left and Watrous Gulch to the right.
