Water Dog Reservoir to Twin Basin Reservoir Trail
With a name like Water Dog Reservoir—well, what more needs to be said? This is a flat trail that runs northeast along what was once a farm road. The trail passes five reservoirs, lakes, and beaver ponds and is typical of the hiking experience on Grand Mesa—a lot of water for fishing, swimming, and water skiing. The terrain alternates from aspen groves to a fir and spruce forest to clearings and meadows. At higher elevation, the ecosystem becomes drier and more barren with piñon pine and sagebrush flanking the trails.
