Treasury Mountain Summit Trail
Treasury’s setting brings to mind visions of the Greek underworld, with dark, stormy mountains and precipitous drop-offs into vertigo-inducing canyons. The area is wild, rugged, and teeming with elemental malice— storms that hit the area often unleash their fury with amplified force. Treasury sits on the edge of the turmoil, offering views to the benevolent Maroon Bells–Snowmass Wilderness peaks to the north, and to the more sinister-looking Raggeds Wilderness peaks to the south. Of course, if you get a blue, sunny day, it’s simply a heck of a mountain with incredible views. The ridge is a splendid experience, reaching a broad alpine plateau before the final summit push. The 300-million-yearold marine shale atop the peak is decorated with fossils of fish, plants, and shells—keep your eyes open. These may be the best treasures found on the mountain.
