Trap Park Trail to Iron Mountain
This is a spectacular but little-known area off of Long Draw Road. The trail edges uphill through a beautiful riparian area following the Trap Creek drainage on a narrow trail. Peterson Lake is a possible side trail destination popular with fisherman. The park is a draw, or small canyon, and offers interesting, varied scenery and a rolling trail that climbs gently. After 1 mile, you reach the wide open, impressive “park” framed by a pretty mixed forest that opens into a series of high tundra-like meadows, topping out with a great view of the mountains. You can hike all the way to the top of Iron Mountain at the highest point. Be sure to wear bright colors in hunting season because the area is popular with hunters.
