The Hunter Valley Trail
Aspen, CO

The Hunter Valley Trail
A day hike along the meadowy lower reaches of Hunter Creek. This trail departs from the city limits of Aspen to visit the meadow-filled valley of Hunter Creek. Once slated for development into a ski resort, this picturesque valley remains in an undeveloped state and is home to a number of ruins dating from Aspen’s prospecting era. The trail lies entirely outside the wilderness and is popular with mountain bikers and trail runners as well as hikers. The beaver ponds in the middle reaches of Hunter Creek are a popular fishing destination. From the Koch Ranch ruins, one can link up with the road network that leads to the Hunter Creek Trail, but there is no linkage to upper Hunter Creek from the upper end of the Hunter Valley Trail.
