The Grottos
A complex of short trails that visit waterfalls and water-sculpted gorges. This complex of short trails begins at the site of the old Weller Station on the original Independence Pass wagon road. Tolls were collected at this stage stop until it burned to the ground during the 1890s. The shortest, wheelchair-accessible trail visits thundering falls on the Roaring Fork. On the far bank of the river, the Old Stage Road leads upstream to Lincoln Creek, and an offshoot visits unique water-carved slots known locally as the Ice Caves.
