The Colorado Trail: Sargents Mesa to Colorado Highway-114

This segment continues to travel along the crest of the Continental Divide. That means that water sources are scarce. There are no reliable water sources before Baldy Lake, which is 7 miles along the trail. The next one beyond is Lujan Creek, beginning at mile 18. This segment reaches its high point at the crest of Middle Baldy Peak, where there are great views of the Gunnison Basin. To get around the steep southwest face of Middle Baldy, the CT starts the decent in a northwesterly direction, but soon curves around to the south, entering the drainage of Razor Creek for a mile or so. As soon as it clears the steep face of Middle Baldy, the CT rejoins the crest of the Divide and stays there until its decent into the Lujan Creek drainage. This segment ends on the south shoulder of CO-114, 0.4 mile southwest of where the Lujan Creek Road meets the highway.
