The Colorado Trail: Molas Pass to Bolam Pass Road
This segment starts at US-550, just north of Molas Pass. It proceeds west on a trail, separate from the access road, to the south side of Little Molas Lake Campground. After a short trip through the campground, the CT departs via the west side. The area west of the campground, for several miles, is the upper Lime Creek drainage area, which was once heavily forested until a fire in 1879. Even though 130 years have past by, the forest has not returned. The CT traverses the upper reaches of this drainage for the next 9 miles, where trees will not be an impediment to the view. Even though the CT has left the Continental Divide behind, its elevation remains well above 10,000 feet for the next 50 miles. This segment ends at Celebration Lake, 4WD accessible and therefore quite popular in mid-summer.
