The Colorado Trail: Marshall Pass to Sargents Mesa
This segment of the CT and the next two segments are mostly open to motorized traffic. This is because, in the hurry to get the Colorado Trail opened, it was decided to follow an existing motorized route until a separate route could be located. So far, that goal has proven elusive. Be alert for motorcycles approaching at high speed in mid-summer. Water sources are a little scarce in this segment. Silver Creek, about 3.6 miles in, has water at about 0.25 mile east of the CT. As you climb the flank of Windy Peak on the CT, you can spot a very green area about 0.25 mile south of you, at the foot of the slope. That has been a reliable spring. About 11 miles in, cross Tank Seven Creek, which also is a good source of water. Walking up the meadow and approaching Sargents Mesa, there have always been a couple of stock tanks with water (if you are not fussy and have a good filter.) From Sargents Mesa, it is about 7 miles to water at Baldy Lake in the next segment.
