The Colorado Trail: Kassler to South Platte Canyon
This first segment of the Colorado Trail begins at the Waterton Canyon Trailhead next to the South Platte River. This is a very popular day use area and, undoubtedly, the busiest segment of the entire Colorado Trail. In the first 6 miles, the road only gains about 40 feet per mile, which allows for a very pleasant walk, hike, jog or bicycle ride; and lots of people take advantage of it every day. After the first 7 miles, the trail gets a lot more vigorous; the domain of determined backpackers, expert mountain bikers and masochistic trail runners.
