The Colorado Trail: Goldhill Trailhead to Copper Mountain
This segment of the CT crosses the Tenmile Range. It is a steady, 6-mile, 3600 foot ascent of the east side, crossing the ridge between Peaks 5 and 6 at nearly 12,500 feet, then a descent of 3,000 feet on the west side in about 6 miles. However, while you are up on the tundra, you are rewarded with some spectacular views! The snow fields tend to linger until mid-July and might present a problem before the end of June. If snow is a problem, optionally you may take the bike path to Frisco and up Tenmile Canyon, rejoining the CT at Copper Mountain. But you’ll miss the great views. There is a fairly good camping area at about 0.25 mile up the CT from the trailhead on the south side of the trail. You can get water from the Blue River on the south side of the hill. Once you pass Miners Creek, there are not any good camping spots until near the end of this segment.
