The Colorado Trail: Copper Mountain to Tennessee Pass
This segment begins off of CO-91 at the south edge of the Copper Mountain Resort Golf Course. The CT continues generally westward, staying south of the built-up areas while passing under the lower ends of several ski lifts. It passes close to the Copper Mountain Village Center at one point (mile 1.7), where there are restaurants and limited grocery shopping. At about mile 2.2, the CT joins the Copper Mountain horse trail and shares this trail for about 1.2 miles. It gently climbs the mountain, passes through several ski runs and leaves the developed ski area at about mile 4.4. At around mile 5.4, the CT crosses Guller Creek and continues up the gulch to Searle Pass. From Searle Pass to Kokomo Pass, the CT contours across the tundra on the east side of Elk Ridge at the 12,000-foot level, providing some nice views. It then curves around the south end of Elk Ridge and descends into the valley containing old Camp Hale. It then parallels south-bound CO-24, first on the east side, then on the west side to Tennessee Pass.
