Texas Creek
A day hike or backpack along a major valley. Texas Creek drains one of the few long valleys that penetrate into the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness. Linkages with trails to Waterloo Gulch, the Magdalene Mine, and Browns Pass make good side trips for backpackers. The open, brushy valley allows plenty of mountain views along the way. Texas Creek itself is noted for the abundant (but small) brook and brown trout that inhabit its many beaver ponds. Above the Magdalene Gulch junction, the Texas Creek Trail is quite primitive, and it disappears entirely once it reaches the timberline. The cross-country tundra hike to Lake Rebecca requires some map and compass skills.
