Sunnyside Trail
Up and up and up—the Sunnyside Trail climbs relentlessly across the scrub-covered south-facing slopes of Red Mountain. It is a workout, but the views give the climb a substantial charm. Look northwest, where the Roaring Fork Valley broadens and grows rounder as it drops toward the Colorado River basin. Look east past the steep green slopes of Aspen Ski Mountain to the steely peaks that guard Independence Pass. And gaze southwest at the pink and purple summits of the Maroon Bells and Pyramid Peak, which, at more than 14,000 feet, tower over the valley.
