South Valley Park Trail
Just southwest of Denver lays another treasure maintained by Jefferson County Open Space. South Valley Park offers 909 acres of preserved and beautiful land close to the urban hullabaloo of the big city. We chose a couple of trails that form a lollipop loop through a valley that is home to spectacular geological formations and critical range for elk and mule deer. A number of red stone outcroppings of the Fountain and Lyons formations are scattered throughout the valley, making this short trail well worth a visit. Trail maps are available at the trailhead. One section of the loop is for hikers only; the rest of the park is multiuse. Mountain bikes and horses are common sights along the way.
