South Boulder Creek: Bobolink Nature Trail
Gurgling and sparkling, with its bower of stately cottonwoods and lush border of wildflowers and shrubbery, South Boulder Creek is the soul of this hike. Interpretive signs along the first half of the trail describe the diversity of riparian and prairie habitats, and the importance of water conservation. With development encroaching on this narrow strip of parkland, the importance of its preservation, and the health of the ecosystems it supports, is all the more poignant. Much of this area was recently designated a natural area by the State of Colorado in recognition of the diversity of its plants and animals. The trail, which is easy and well maintained, is extremely popular with hikers, trail runners, and dog walkers; dogs must be under voice and sight control and are prohibited from the trail south of South Boulder Road. Streamside rock benches are great for contemplating the shimmering water and the mountain backdrop that rises to the west.
